Victor Wooten is reissuing a re-mastered version of his debut recording A Show of Hands with bonus tracks entitled "A Show of Hands 15" on March 8, 2011, to coincide with the album's 15th anniversary and his upcoming tour with The Stanley Clarke Band.Wooten is the renowned bass player for Bιla Fleck and the Flecktones. Heralded as "the Michael Jordan of the bass" and "the most influential bassist since Jaco Pastorius," Victor has gone on to win just about every award possible for a bass guitarist, including Bass Player Magazine's "Bassist of the Year" Award, which he has won three times (the only person to win it more than once).
Wooten is also a published author and educator. His book "The Music Lesson" is now available in 4 languages and is being used in curriculums in schools around the world. He holds music clinics at schools and universities around the country and hosts music and nature camps through out the year at his own Wooten Woods, a 150 acre facility just outside of Nashville.
Originally released in February of 1996 on Compass Records, A Show Of Hands set the music world on fire as the virtuoso Wooten produced a record unlike any other. With only two hands, one 4-string bass guitar, and no overdubs, he created a masterful 10 song CD that raised the level and credibility of the bass guitar into a class previously reserved only for pianists and guitarists.
A Show of Hands 15 is a re-mastered version plus 3 previously unreleased bonus tracks, including an enhanced version of "U Can't Hold No Groove" with drums and percussion by Wooten's longtime friend JD Blair, "Flip Flop", a new song also featuring Blair, and "Live Solo #2", an unedited live solo performance recorded at a 2003 Flecktones' concert showcasing Wooten's astonishing command of the bass guitar with a looping pedal.
Beginning with A Show of Hands 15, Wooten will begin taking complete control of his creations by releasing all of his future recordings through his own VIX RECORDS. Wooten says of his label, "We aim to provide, by example, a different standard and model for record labels and artists, as well as for how they relate to each other. Following my successful approach of creating music that focuses on filling my soul rather than my pockets, I've found that this is the best recipe for doing both."
The Victor Wooten Band will co-headline a tour with The Stanley Clarke Band beginning March 9th in Oklahoma City. The Victor Wooten band comprises Victor Wooten on bass and vocals; Regi Wooten on guitar and vocals; Joseph Wooten on keyboards and vocals; and Derico Watson on drums and vocals.
