Kate Nash's Rock N Roll for Girls After School Music Club

02/07/2011
.
(PR) The Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles, Music Unites, a non-profit organization supporting students and emerging artists by providing music education and performance opportunities, will team up with Kate Nash on February 9, 2011 in support of women's empowerment.

Music Unites will announce the kickoff of Kate Nash's Rock N Roll for Girls After School Music Club as she participates in the Grammy Museum's Backstage Pass Panel Series.

During her appearance at the GRAMMY Museum Kate Nash will sign guitars donated by bebe, a number of which will be given to the Women's Excellence Academy in the Bronx.

Kate Nash's Rock N Roll for Girls After School Music Club is an international youth outreach initiative that she is slated to kickoff in the U.K. with her upcoming Spring 2011 tour. The initiative will be announced in the U.S. during GRAMMY week, in conjunction with Kate's participation with Music Unites in the GRAMMY Museum Backstage Pass Panel Series. Kate will meet with approximately 100 Los Angeles area high school girls in the Museum's Theater where she will lead a discussion and Q&A on how music has empowered her, and then perform live for the students.

After the discussion, Q&A and performance the students will take a tour of the museum. Music Unites is excited to partner with Kate and the Grammy Museum to announce her Rock N Roll for Girls After School Music Club initiative, kickoff its presence in the U.S., and to present Kate as Music Unites' newest Women's Empowerment ambassador.

In February, bebe stores nationwide will unveil Valentine's windows created around the theme 'Addicted to Love'. Store windows will feature mannequins holding guitars that are exact replicas of those depicted in Robert Palmer's 1986 'Addicted to Love' music video. These guitars will be donated to Music Unites for fundraising efforts and for distribution to music students throughout the U.S., a number of them signed by Kate.

Kate Nash's Rock N Roll for Girls After School Music Club is an after-school program designed to provide an environment that facilitates mentoring and empowerment for young girls through the sharing of experience. The program is geared toward students who are interested in pursuing music but will be beneficial to any female student, with its over-arching goal of, inspiring motivation, encouraging creativity and building self-esteem. After school sessions will explore topics including what it really means to pursue a dream, the process of making music, and will provide opportunities for students to showcase and express their talents through jam sessions. As Kate is an international artist, student members of her Rock N Roll for Girls After School Music Club will have the opportunity to communicate with her virtually via Facebook and Twitter, to maintain a personal experience when she's not in the U.S.

The announcement of Kate Nash's Rock N Roll for Girls After School Music Club, Kate's partnership with Music Unites through their Women's Empowerment initiative, and her participation in the GRAMMY Museum Backstage Pass Panel series, coincide with the 2011 GRAMMY Awards, the pinnacle in industry recognition of musical achievement, and just weeks prior to the beginning of Women's History month. The timing and location are ideal for the talented English singer songwriter to meet with the group of Los Angeles area high school girls, to share inspirational experiences, advice, and lessons learned throughout the pursuit of her music career.

Michelle Edgar, Founder and Executive Director, Music Unites: "We're so excited to partner with Kate to present this initiative. Music Unites aims to truly help inspire students to realize their musical potential whether on the stage or behind it. Dialogue and shared experience are such important ways to give back to communities and Kate is such a strong role model. And what better time and place than GRAMMY week at the GRAMMY Museum! We really think that the tangible elements of having such a talented artist speak, and being at the GRAMMY Museum where such historic achievements are showcased, will make February 9 an event that will inspire the young women to pursue their passions." Some of Music Unites' previous Women's Empowerment ambassadors include singer songwriters Melanie Fiona and Diane Birch, and violinist Caitlin Moe.
