Best Fans Drive For Beatles Honor

(Gibson) When Pete Best was unceremoniously dropped by The Beatles in 1962, just as the band were about to hit unseen heights of superstardom, fans from around Liverpool rallied to support him. They picketed Beatles shows with signs and loudly voiced their displeasure. Now, nearly 50 years later, Pete Best fans are again showing their support for the easygoing drummer. Over 10,000 fans have signed a petition to have a street in Liverpool named after Best. The campaign has garnered support from fans around the world.Among those who have made their show of support public is Best's brother, Roag, who told the Liverpool Echo, "The formative years of The Beatles were very much Pete's years and, without these years, The Beatles would not have gone on to be the world icons they became." Roag, who is the son of Beatles road manager Neil Aspinall, continued, "He did over 1,000 shows with them, which means he did more with them than Ringo Starr did in six years. In Hamburg, especially, they were doing eight or nine-hour sessions, so apart from playing more shows, he outstripped Ringo in hours played, as well." more on this story
