The Madeleine Haze Talk Star Packed Ozzy Tribute

12/27/2011
.
The Madeleine Haze sent over these details about their contribution to the star-filled Ozzy Osbourne tribute coming out next year:

On May 8th, Versailles Records will release the 2-cd set "No More Tears: A Millennium Tribute To Ozzy Osbourne". While the set is headlined by performances from Hard Rock legends such as Vince Neil (Motley Crue), George Lynch (Dokken) and Chris Poland (Megadeth), many of the songs will be performed by some of the hottest new bands on the scene. Among these are Philadelphia-based Progressive Grunge trio The Madeleine Haze, who contribute a cover of Ozzy's classic anti-war anthem "Killer Of Giants".

Crafting a memorable cover of a song by an icon such as Ozzy is no easy task, so the band went in with clear goals for the song. "We wanted to keep the essence of the original, but add a few harmonies and musical flourishes to make it our own", explains vocalist/guitarist Zack Goebbel, "and hopefully the result is something that fans will view as a respectful but fresh take on a classic." Goebbel is a life-long Ozzy fan himself, and fondly remembers saving up his allowance as a child to eventually collect his idol's entire catalog. "Jake E Lee, Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde...these were my first inspirations to play guitar, and my first vocal exercises as a kid were Ozzy songs."

While not one of Ozzy's biggest hits, "Killer of Giants" is a favorite among many diehard fans, including The Madeleine Haze. In addition, the anti-war message of the song resonates with the band, who are no strangers to protest music. On their latest EP "A More Perfect Union", They envision a near-future America where endless global war has resulted in a shattered economy and the loss of freedoms. Goebbel views "Killer of Giants" as a perfect fit for his band, both musically and thematically, and plans to include the song in their live set throughout 2012. An extensive US tour is planned following the release of "No More Tears: A Millennium Tribute To Ozzy Osbourne", but the band will warm up with an east coast run beginning in late January.
