(Gibson) Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks are streaming their new album, Mirror Traffic, for free via NPR ahead of its release. The album hits the streets via Matador records on August 23, but fans can hear it now. The album was produced by none other than Beck.Mirror Traffic is the last Jicks recording to feature drummer Janet Weiss, who departed the band after the sessions. Weiss' replacement is Jake Morris, formerly of Joggers.
Malkmus spent most of 2010 on the road with his previous band, Pavement. No further Pavement shows are currently planned, but multi-insrumentalist Bob Nastanovich won't rule it out either, telling Spin magazine that if the band does continue with its reunion, it will be exclusively as a live entity playing the existing catalog. "Stephen does not write songs for Pavement anymore, or songs in the Pavement mindset," Nastanovich said. more on this story
