Dead Meadow To Release Peel Session

Dead Meadow will release their legendary Peel Session digitally on May 10th via Xemu Recordings. The eight songs recorded in 2000 contain the first appearances of songs that later appeared on the band's second and third album ("Howls From The Hills" and "Shivering King" respectively). The session was actually recorded the same time that the band was recording Howls From The Hills but the versions here were treasured by many fans for possessing more raw/live energy than the studio versions. Steven Kille from the band remembers "Our Peel session really opened doors for us in the UK particularly with Super Furry Animals. Gruff (vocals) was driving back to Wales from London and was stuck in traffic and ended up catching the whole session on the radio. He told the band about us and we ended up doing about 5 tours with them including their massive "Phantom Power" album all because of that rare chance of him listening to that show." Also included here is an instrumental track called The Boot which never appeared anywhere else. Hosted by legendary BBC DJ John Peel, The Peel Sessions are widely regarded as among the finest performances on radio, regardless of musical genre. However the Dead meadow session make it among the most memorable considering it was the first time John Peel let a band record the session out of the UK. Kille recalls "At the time we had no money and no tour to head to the UK but John Peel really wanted us on his show. He allowed us to record locally and since we were all good friends with Fugazi while living in DC we tracked the songs on reel-to-reel tape at their practice space in Arlington VA. Also included with the Xemu version is a demo for the band's staple song White Worm and an acoustic version of the song Golden Cloud from the same time period. Of late, Dead Meadow have been writing and recording new material to succeed their 2010 LP/DVD project The Three Kings. Mark Laughlin, the band's original drummer who appears on the Peel Session and then left after Howls From The Hills in 2000 has just returned to the band marking a return to an all original lineup.
