Becoming the Archetype's brand new album 'Celestial Completion' hits stores this week. To celebrate the release we asked members of the band to tell us about some of the tracks on the album. Today guitarist Daniel Gailey tells us about "Path of the Beam": Path of the Beam was the second or third song written for CC and the first song that I wrote in its entirety for the band. I helped out with some other riffs on the record but this song's definitely got my fingerprints all over it. I had some old riffs saved on my computer that I had been trying to incorporate into a song for a while, just no transitions to make them flow together. By the time we started running through the few riffs we had for the song at practice, and I heard the way it was all supposed to sound with the whole band, the rest just kind of fell into place.
I would go into further detail about how this song all came together but it's a pretty boring process, so I'll spare you the boredom. This was my first time recording in the studio, so after hearing the final product I am beyond stoked for this release! A lot of people ask me what the lyrics are about in the new songs, and to be honest, since I'm a guitar player I tend to listen to more of the composition than the lyrics. Jason tells me that Path of The Beam has something to do with riding motorcycles in space. I don't know.. sounds kind of ridiculous to me. I mean, have you ever thought about how hard it would be to ride a freakin motorcycle on the moon?! That's crazy.
Anyways, I think this song holds true to some of the classic BTA riffs but you can definitely tell that I have put my own personal spin on this song in particular. A lot of people will comment on the "breakdowns" in this song and how they are "super gay" blah blah blah. Say what you will about about that, but let's not put terms on things. I like writing heavy music, and this song is heavy. End of story.
