Iron Maiden's Dickinson Needs No Prompting

Rock Radio reports that Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson would rather screw up a lyric than use an autocue (teleprompter) on stage – both as a matter of pride and of performance. He says it's impossible to deliver a song with the required character if you're reading lines instead of imagining the storyline. And the fact that he's still asked whether he does forget lines means his approach works. "I get away with it pretty well – if I'd forgotten the words in a spectacular manner it would be all over YouTube," Dickinson tells the Iron Maiden Fan Club magazine. "I get the odd blank moment, usually because of a distraction. Something equipment-wise niggles a bit then it's, 'Oh sh*t, what's the first line of the second verse?' And of course that puts on the pressure, which only makes things worse." - more on this story
