Merykid announced today the worldwide, digital release of his debut LP entitled "The Raccoon" on December 14, 2010. This 10-track album, featuring analog keyboards, live horns, strings, and 808 drum beats, will take listeners on an adventure as each track depicts the journey of a man becoming fed up with society, building a spaceship, and leaving Earth.
Of the new album, Merykid shares, "The Raccoon is a journey through the emotions and realities of leaving someone, or somewhere, that you love."
Over the past three years, Merykid has released four independent EP's, and has charted in the Garageband.com Top 25 for Acoustic Songs. His sophomore EP, "Boy & The Bird" released in 2009, was met with critical acclaim nationally and internationally, putting him on the music industry map with his folk-based work. Now, Merykid brings a fresh new sound with "The Raccoon" for critics and fans, exposing a quirky blend of pop, folk, and experimental music.
Merykid has shared the stage with artists such as Blue October, Augustana, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Roger Croeger, Katharine McPhee, Sugarcult, and Sister Hazel, to name a few. Between performing to sold-out crowds in Texas, and hosting a worldwide-broadcasted radio show "Live & Local with The Mighty Merykid" every Thursday night in San Antonio, Merykid has already released "Live @ Studio A" in 2010, and will soon follow with the bluegrass-influenced "I'm Wide Awake, It's Raining" EP in 2011.
