Rob Zombie Announced For The Royal Flush Festival

09/16/2010
.
This year's Royal Flush Festival will feature Rob Zombie signing copies of his new album and Royal Flush Magazine as well as Downtown Calling- a documentary narrated by Deborah Harry opening the film festival, and Kaiju Big Battel, the world's only live, monster fighting spectacle in its one and only New York City performance of 2010.

Here are the full details: The Royal Flush Festival returns with another highly anticipated and eclectic lineup of independent films, live rock performances, and underground art events taking place October 11-18 at Knitting Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and other venues throughout the city.

Named after Royal Flush Magazine, the killer, nationally-distributed rag that celebrates underground music, art, video games, pop-culture and indie movies with original & customized artwork, the Royal Flush Festival has more value than any other film festival in New York while doing so at a fraction of the cost. During the festival, Royal Flush Magazine will reveal Book 7 featuring on its two covers rock superstar and horror movie director Rob Zombie as well as the cast of FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, respectively. Zombie will sign copies of Royal Flush Magazine Book 7, and the bonus edition of Hellbilly Deluxe 2 at Forbidden Planet in Manhattan on October 11.

"We're really psyched to be taking over Knitting Factory this year. It's the perfect spot to present our collection of both indie film and rock & roll," said Jim Muscarella, Royal Flush Festival Film Programmer & Co-Director.

Royal Flush Festival's feature film component opens with Shan Nicholson's documentary Downtown Calling, narrated by Blondie's Deborah Harry, that explores the history and fascination with New York's downtown music and art scene in the 1970s and 1980s on Oct. 13. The festival will conclude with the New York City Premiere of director Stuart Simpson's Australian B-Movie-style slasher feature, El Monstro Del Mar! on Oct. 17.

In addition to premiering great independent films each year, the festival presents exclusive live performances at Knitting Factory and other venues. Highlights include Kaiju Big Battel, the world's only live, monster fighting spectacle in its one and only New York City performance of 2010, including musical guests Poison Ivy League. Artist Frank Kozik will design a one-of-a-kind art poster just for this show. Other bands performing throughout the festival include Black Taxi, Kid Savant, Lifted Crew, Dungen with guests The Entrance, Rasputina with guest Faun Fables, Seabear with guests North Highlands, and an The American Hardcore All Ages Matinee featuring Urban Waste with Heroes of the NYHC, Downlow and special guest DJ George Tabb.

Below are the lineups for Film and Music & Art at the 2010 Royal Flush Festival. A complete schedule of events and ticketing information will be posted soon at http://www.royalflushfestival.com/.

Downtown Calling (Directed by Shan Nicholson; Produced by Ben Velez) – OPENING NIGHT FILM/NARRATED BY DEBORAH HARRY
Q&A with Shan Nicholson
In the late 1970s, the "greatest city in the world" was teetering on the edge of total chaos. A failed economy, crime and en mass housing corruption gave way to a city in crisis. Yet out of the economic and social strife that held the "Big Apple" hostage, a family of homegrown cultures that would forever change the world began to emerge. Downtown Calling not only documents, in detail, the evolution of New York City's fertile music and art subculture during this period, but how its collective output continues to play a prominent, driving role in the international fashion, art and music industries today. Prayer to a Vengeful God (Directed by Dan Eberle; Produced by Danielle Primiceri and David Cornue)
Q&A with Dan Eberle
After his wife is tragically murdered, and he is mortally wounded at the hands of her murderer, John Krause rouses from a four-month dream to a waking nightmare of pain, addiction, violation, loss, and finally, all-consuming vengeance. Prayer To A Vengeful God is the story of one man's journey from upstanding citizen, to debilitated mental case, to battle-hardened street killer. And all to kill a man he's never met, to commemorate a wife he never really knew. Tacitly told in a lyrical cinematic style, entirely without dialogue, Prayer To A Vengeful God is a silent study of how the lust for vengeance twists and rends, and despite its carnal satisfactions, never changes the past.

Coals to Newcastle, The New Mastersounds: From Leeds to New Orleans (Directed by Marca Hagenstad and Aaron Dunsay) – NEW YORK PREMIERE
Q&A with Marca Hagenstad & Aaron Dunsay
Coals to Newcastle is a brand-new feature film that features an exclusive look at dynamic soul sensation, The New Mastersounds, as they make their trek from the UK to Louisiana; their first adventure to the birthplace of funk. Bringing Soul Music to New Orleans could be likened to offering 'Coals to Newcastle' as they'd say... but the Post-Katrina community gladly welcomes the extra heat with open arms as The New Mastersounds deliver a welcome funk-inferno from a brand new place & perspective. Do It Again (Directed by Robert Patton-Spruill; Produced by Jeff Edgers) – NEW YORK PREMIERE
Q&A with Robert Patton-Spruill & Geoff Rodgers, moderated by Warren Zanes
It is a quest. Geoff Edgers, a newspaper reporter dreading the approach of his 40th birthday, decides to take a most improbable leap. He sets out to find the still-surviving members of the long dormant British rock band, the Kinks ("You Really Got Me," "Lola" and "Come Dancing"), to convince them to reunite. Never mind that he's an American with just one connection to Kinks leader Ray Davies and his younger brother Dave: Edgers grew up loving their music. When his initial mission fails, Edgers turns the film into a meditation on the power of music and his own chance to testify on his love for the Kinks. He also meets with Kinks fans that include Sting, Zooey Deschanel, REM's Peter Buck, Paul Weller, Robyn Hitchcock and Clive Davis. There are other movies about music. But there's nothing quite like "Do It Again," a kind of "Sherman's March" — with guitars. Director Robert Patton-Spruill ("Squeeze," "Public Enemy: Welcome to the Terrordome") follows Edgers from Boston to California, from Las Vegas to New York City.
