Chiddy Bang release a digital prequel to their forthcoming debut album entitled "The Preview" on October 12th. "The Preview" is an eight song album and documents the incredible journey the group has had over the last year, starting from underground dorm parties and graduating to performances at the biggest festivals in the world including Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and headlining their very own tour across the nation.
Based on feedback from fans wanting new material from the group, Chiddy Bang opted to quench their thirst with the forthcoming release. Xaphoon explains, "The main purpose of this release is to give our fans some new music while we finish recording our debut album, "The Swelly Life." It's called "The Preview" because it gives listeners a glimpse of what's to come on Swelly."
After meeting at Drexel University in 2008 as freshman students, the multi-talented duo uploaded a mixtape entitled "The Swelly Express" onto their MySpace page. The album spread like wildfire and led to over 100,000 downloads in less than a month. After signing to Parlaphone/Virgin Records, the band released their debut single, the MGMT sampling hit "Opposite of Adults" earlier this year. The track quickly moved up the charts across the world selling almost 200,000 singles in the US alone, over 120,000 in the UK and has gone platinum in Australia. The video for "Opposite of Adults" presently has over 6 million views on YouTube. Every other video the group has put up online has been rapidly consumed by fans wanting more.
Hip hop heavyweights have given their approval of the group as well. Kanye West blogged about them while Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi and Three 6 Mafia have invited them to support their live shows. Since then, Chiddy Bang has experienced a whirlwind of sorts - worldwide tours, sold out headline shows and early media support from print outlets like Spin, Nylon and Interview as well as online support from major sites MySpace and AOL and video channels such as MTV. Based on their grueling schedule and promotional commitments, the duo has had little time to fulfill their vision for their debut album. "The Preview" is an appetizer while the band use the next few months to finish recording their debut album, "The Swelly Life" due for release in early 2011.
Recorded over the last 6 months, "The Preview" is a look into the many things the band have experienced over the last year as well as the personal battles they have experienced by being thrown into the limelight so quickly.
