Today Act As If tell us the story behind their first full-length video for the song "Old Souls" from their album "There's A Light." Here you go! We wanted to keep this video pretty straightforward and performance-based, kind of a 'simple is good' idea. The director, Chris Cullari, came up with the treatment, which was basically to have us perform in a room full of old newspapers, and then slowly paint over the bad headlines with bright, hopeful images as the song progressed.
We found some incredible newspaper headlines to use for the shoot
some original copies, and some reprints. It's intense to hold an LA Times with the title "Beatle John Lennon Slain." The idea behind painting over the old headlines was not to discredit the tragedies behind them, but to focus instead on the idea of moving forward: the idea that we can still create new, good things
regardless of the past.
The entire process was a great experience for everyone in the band, and I think it was for the crew as well. Being our first full-length video, we really had no idea how much work needed to go into it [the answer: a lot]. But thankfully, it was also a lot of fun, and we hope that people enjoy it.
