The Tony Iommi and Ian Gillan reunion just keeps getting better. First Iommi announce that the two would get together to record a new song and had recruited Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain and Deep Purple's Jon Lord to join them. That all-star lineup just expanded by two members. Iommi's official website offered this update:"'Out Of My Mind' has now been fully recorded! Ian (Gillan, Deep Purple) and Tony are excited to announce that (former Metallica bassist) Jason Newsted has kindly played bass on the track and Mikko Lindstrφm (H.I.M.) has also added some great guitar parts too. Next stop is getting the track mixed!"
According to Tony's site, in 1989 Tony Iommi and Ian Gillan were just a few names in a long list of talent involved in the recording of the Deep Purple track "Smoke on The Water." This song was re-recorded to raise money for those affected by the Leinakan earthquake that struck Armenia in 1988.
In October of last year both Tony and Ian travelled to Armenia to see how the funds raised had helped the local community. On their trip they visited a music school only to find it being run out of temporary accommodation, it was the only location not to have been rebuilt 20 years after the earthquake had struck.
The new track "Out of My Mind" is due to be released to raise money to build a new music school. More information about the charity single, behind the scenes photos and details will follow soon!
