Lou Reed Collaborates With Susan Boyle

(Gibson) Apparently Lou Reed isn't always as vicious as some might assume. The 68-year-old former Velvet Underground frontman had initially banned Scottish vocal phenomenon Susan Boyle from singing his tune, "Perfect Day," on an episode of TV's America's Got Talent. But, after an apparent change of heart, Reed not only sanctioned a Boyle cover of the song — one of the standout tracks from Reed's 1972 Transformer album — but he also became creatively involved in the production of Boyle's video for the song. The atmospheric video was shot around the banks of Loch Lomond, and Reed told Scotland's Sunday Mail, "I wanted to create a beautiful and intimate piece shot in Susan's native Scotland and she quickly agreed." Boyle had previously been quoted as calling Reed "childish" for not allowing her to sing "Perfect Day" on television, but after working together, she said, "I loved that Lou understood how much it meant to me to film in Scotland. I didn't mind how much it rained or blew a gale — I enjoyed every minute." - more on this story
