Foo Fighters Going Heavy?

(Gibson) Foo Fighters have been hard at work on the follow-up to their 2007 album, Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace. As the band have been busily laying down tracks with Nirvana producer (and Garbage songwriter/drummer) Butch Vig, two creative themes have emerged: the silly and the heavy.Speaking to NME, frontman Dave Grohl revealed that he was asked by bassist Nate Mendel to bring some of the fun back to the band's songwriting. "At one point Nate sent me an email, and said, 'I really like it when you write songs that are silly and mean nothing, too," he said. "You don't have to try and write Imagine every time you sit down with a pen and paper." Grohl also mentioned that following his declaration that the new album would be the band's heaviest yet, Vig began shooting down any composition that didn't meet that requirement. "Butch saw [the quote] and then when I'd approach him with a new song idea, he'd say, 'This doesn't rock enough, no… Next.' I'd have to show him another one." -
