Jaicko will release of his debut album, Can I, on June 1st, which will be available digitally in the US and Canada. Already a bonafide superstar in his native Barbados and fresh off of winning the Barbados Music Award for Best R&B Star, the same award Rihanna won before she made it in the states, 18 year old Jaicko is excited to share his fresh, global pop sound with music fans.
The first single from the album, "Oh Yeah," produced by the Stereotypes (Ne-Yo, Mary J. Blige, Natasha Bedingfield), reached #2 on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip Hop singles and is a catchy, irresistible tune. The second and current single, "Fast Forward (FFWD)," produced by Ryan & Smitty (Chris Brown), is currently crossing airwaves. Jaicko has made numerous appearances performing the infectious song acoustically on many television shows across the country.
While Jaicko is still very young at 18, he is a seasoned professional in the world of music. Performing since age nine, he eventually recorded and released an independent album as a rapper in Barbados. It went on to sell 6,000 copies, a massive success considering the island's total population is less than that of Pittsburgh. It was enough to fuel Jaicko's desire to take music seriously and once he started singing and shopping his music in the states, he was quickly scooped up and given a deal at Capitol Records. It was quite an accomplishment for such a young artist.
Can I is an album that can be listened to all the way through and is filled with perfect summer fun anthems. Light hearted and fun, the offerings include more than just the first two singles. Stand out songs include "Two-Piece" (produced by STARGATE [Beyonce, Rihanna]) a boisterous, beat heavy banger; the riding reggae riddim of "Name & Number," on which Jaicko rediscovers his flow; the surging, swelling "Dreaming About Me" (produced by Jim Jonsin [Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, T.I.] and Wayne Wilkins); and the soaring soul-searcher "Will You Be There?" Other collaborators include longtime Usher co-writer Rico Love as well as Claude Kelly (Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson) and Chris Rojas (Pink, Backstreet Boys). In all, Can I, which features 3 tracks Jaicko self produced ("Can I," "About You," and "Name & Number") is a surprisingly deep, sophisticated offering. The album is as much feel-good and fun as it is gratifying and uplifting - it connotes a full spectrum of emotions and feelings.
