antiMusic has always been big fans of women that rock and Leiana is no exception. To celebrate the release of her new album, Lucky #3, today (feat big names from Alice In Chains, Walls Of Jericho, Smile Empty Soul, Anthrax, White Zombie, Fuel and Chuck D), we asked Leiana to tell us about some her favorite tracks from album. Here are today's songs: "Suffer" and "Love Don't Matter." Suffer: Originally "Suffer" was a track on my last record "No Going Back" that I had written with Chuck Treece and released on my own label independently. My manager had introduced me to Rob Caggiano to start working on the new record and I gave Rob that album to give him a sense of my style of music. Rob really liked that tune and expressed an interest in re working it. We kept the verse guitar part and the cowbell of the original, but wrote a new chorus and bridge. Eddie then came in and I finished it with him with new melodies for the chorus and bridge because Rob went off recording or playing somewhere. Rob did record the guitar and bass on that track though, and John Tempesta played drums on it. I was kinda nervous to play if for Chuck once it was done because I wasn't sure if he would appreciate that we reworked the tune, but he totally dug it!
Love Don't Matter- was the first song that Eddie Wohl(my producer/songwriter partner) ever wrote together. We also wrote it in about 15 minutes. we actually had a writing session with Rob Caggiano scheduled and we were waiting for Rob to get off the phone and start the session. Eddie came up with the guitar riff and almost disregarded it because he felt it was too simple. I like it though and I encouraged him to keep going. It was one of the few songs that we actually came up with lyrics to the guitar part simultaneously...Eddie would just play the riff and spit out lyrics, and I would recite back to him the good ones. This continued for about 10 minutes , and by the time Rob came into the session, the first song for the record had been written!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind these songs, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
