Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. While Sick Puppies are gearing up to kick off a tour with Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin and Shinedown next weekend, we were lucky enough to touch base with bassist Emma Anza who tells us about the song "Odd One" from their latest album "Tri-Polar". We now turn it over to Emma for the story! 'Odd One' is probably one of our favorite songs on our record "Tri - Polar" as we all individually relate to it one way or another.
I met Shim in high school and I think it's safe to say that we were outcasts and felt pretty odd compared to the rest of kids in school. Shim was the eccentric kid doing anything and everything creative and I was the slightly tom boy girl who was quiet and shy. High school can be a rough place when you're trying to grow up and find your way and it makes it especially rough when you feel like you're the odd one.
When it came time to write and record "Tri - Polar" I had an odd time signature bass line that I used to play all the time for fun and in the writing process I played it, Shim and our producers Tim James and Antonina Armato liked it and we all started calling the song 'The Odd One' and then the lyrics came naturally about what it feels like to be the odd one out. It was the perfect subject and we all reminisced about being in high school or even being in present day situations.
'Odd One' is a single off "Tri - Polar" and we were all really happy that it got to be put in the spotlight.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album, the band and see if their tour is coming to your town - right here!
