Every year the film industry gets together for a popularity contest called the Academy Awards. While this is a bit like politicians being polled for their own approval ratings, the Oscars always draw a lot of attention. This year's awards, which took place Sunday night, offered up quite a few firsts. The Oscar for best director is no longer a "boys club," with Kathryn Bigelow becoming the first woman to ever win the honor. Bigelow had a big night, not only did she win for best director but her film "The Hurt Locker" took away the top prize for best film.
