Dovecote Records is elated to announce that they will be releasing the Cast Spells Bright Works and Baton EP on clear vinyl come May 4, 2010. Cast Spells is David Davison, lead singer of Maps & Atlases. This is the first time the EP will be available on wax and has been re-sequenced to include an extra track called "All Brass" which appeared on a split 7" with Good Old War. The vinyl pressing of Bright Works and Baton is limited to 500. Bright Works and Baton is available digitally and on CD via Cast Spells' record label, Sargent House.
Driven by sonic experimentation, the avant-pop delivery of Cast Spells' debut EP, Bright Works and Baton points to the influence of artists such as Brian Eno, Bill Callahan and Cat Stevens but breathes quickly into the lungs of a new lyrical body. Davison and producer Jason Cupp charged the recording process with an ambitious immediacy. In seven days and with one microphone, 28 songs were born in the basement of Davison's childhood home. Pounding the notes of any instruments within reach, Davison and Cupp performed nearly the entire album themselves, often using the first take.
Bright Works and Baton will be available on vinyl via Dovecote Records on May 4, 2010. Cast Spells has been on an extensive tour of the United States and leaves for their first European tour this week. They will also appear at this year's SXSW. Further tour dates will be announced shortly to support the May 4th release date.
