Harper Simon has released the first video from his debut album, the video for "Wishes and Stars", was directed by actor/director Joshua Leonard (The Blair Witch Project, Humpday and Hung) and can now be viewed online. Marked by an accessible intelligence and impressive musical range, "Wishes and Stars" is certainly not "simple as a bee/as a melody in C" as the lyric reads. Co-written by acclaimed novelist Ben Okri, the song is a strong statement of Harper's considerable musical ambition. The song's eloquent and evocative chorus "there are more wishes than stars" points to Harper's seriousness of purpose as an emerging songwriter as well as his curiosity about the world.
The "Wishes and Stars" video features an array of captivating special guests, played by notable musicians, actors and artists, including Money Mark (Beastie Boys), lyricist/essayist John Perry Barlow (Grateful Dead), actress Angela Featherstone (The Wedding Singer, The Soloist), Alison Sudol (A Fine Frenzy), producer Laila Nabulsi (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), model/writer Jessica Joffee, and LA poet/painter/musician E.E.
