Ponderosa Stomp Festival Lineup

06/02/2010
.
The 9th Annual Ponderosa Stomp Festival will be a fall event instead of a spring one. This years festival will take place on 24th & 25th of September and organizers have announced additional artists who will perform. Here is the announcement:

The Ponderosa Stomp throws down in its 9th year with an incredible array of performers. Duane Eddy, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Thee Midniters, Red Simpson and The Trashmen were previously announced, representing American music's expansive range of genres, from twangy guitar genius to bold, sassy R&B, Chicano rock, truckin' anthems, soulful southern songwriting and primal garage.

Mind-bogglingly cool new additions to the show include pioneers of rockabilly, soul, western swing, swamp pop, blues and New Orleans R&B, fans would be hard-pressed to witness talent this heavy and diverse anywhere else. Tickets go on sale June 5th; travel packages are also available.

From Texas: Legendary Western Swing fiddler Johnny Gimble (Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys), blues soul queen Barbara Lynn, rockabilly star Huelyn Duvall, Gulf Coast wildman Roy Head and Austin's Eve and the Exiles as well as the dark primal rock of Homer Henderson.

From Louisiana: From the countryside comes swamp pop geniuses Johnny Allan, Warren Storm and Doug Ardoin and Bert Miller of the original Boogie Kings, a classic cajun review starring DL Menard (the Cajun Hank Williams) w/ Leroy Martin, Cajun steel guitarist Harry Anselmi and Cajun country star Vin Bruce. They'll be joined by R&B/Soul trailblazers Lil Buck Sinegal & the Top Cats with Stanley Dural (Buckwheat Zydeco), swamp blues legend Lazy Lester and the Lost Bayou Ramblers. Some of New Orleans finest performers are on board: Willie West, Wallace Johnson and Charles Brimmer bring the classic sounds of New Orleans R&B to the show while Joe Clay, Jay Chevalier and Michael Hurtt's Haunted Hearts shine playing rockabilly and gulf coast hillbilly music.

From Memphis: Stax star Wendy Rene, whose "I Like B-B-Que"is a classic along with "I Wish I Were That Girl". Her songs transcend their period: Wu Tang Clan sampled "What Will Tomorrow Bring" and Lykke Li recently covered "After Laughter".

The Blues: our bluesmen hail from various places and eras. 95 year old Honeyboy Edwards is the last living link to Robert Johnson and the pre-war Mississippi delta blues tradition. From Atlanta, blues shouter Tommy Brown will join the Stomp, he is know for his 1956 #1 hit, "Weepin and Cryin". Los Angeles R&B singer Young Jesse (The Flairs, The Coasters) will perform his incredible singles, including his "Mary Lou", covered by Ronnie Hawkins, Steve Miller Band, Bob Seger, Gene Clark and The Oblivions, giving it life in every decade of Rock 'n' Roll!

Fans of every style of roots music will be excited to see Deke Dickerson and his Eccofonics performing with an array of artists. These students of Americana play with flair and passion.
