Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. We recently told you about doom/metal supergroup Moth Eater featuring John Conley of Scar Culture, Dave Ardolina and Steve "Buckshot" Seabury of Dirty Rig, and vocalist John Alaia. They are releasing their new mini record "The Thunder God of Monster Island" today and to celebrate John tells us the story behind the track, "Aftermath". We turn it over to John for the story:"Aftermath" was one of the first songs we wrote together. After hearing the doomy, sludgy styling of the music, I felt that a story I had written years earlier fit the mood of the song. Entitled "The End of the Tin Man" The story was about a teenager who is downtrodden and depressed. Beaten up and tortured in school, all the while living with a destroyed family run by a drunken father who would beat and rape his wife and children. Our main subject slowly grows into a manic state and goes on a psychotic rampage destroying and murdering most of the people in his small, suburban town. The song "Aftermath", deals with the fall out of that moment. The guilt and personal anguish that he felt doing what he had done, and leaving himself alone, with no one to share his torment with.
Once, the song was complete, Buckshot met a gentleman by the name of Geoff Kooris, who is a composer, voice actor and world renown Hurdy Gurdy player. Buckshot let Geoff hear a few tunes and he immediately dug it, and wanted to throw some Gurdy on there. We let him do his thing and what you hear on the track is the result. I think it adds a little something to the song. A sadness or a feeling much like it. He did a great job and we love him for it! I truly love the song both musically and lyrically, and I hope that you all can get some feeling out of it too!
