K.Drew leaks new music including a remix of "Carry Out", the popular Justin Timberlake and Timbaland song as well as a remix of "Morning After" the Timbaland and SoShy hit. Also in the mix are two K. Drew originals, "Sorry For My Love" and "Defeated" that really showcase his raw talent! So, who is K.Drew? Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Re-mixer. Multi-instrumentalist. Label Owner. Any one of these talents might be enough. But to have experienced success with all of them? There aren't many artists who can make that claim, but soon any one who listens to the radio will be able to add K. Drew to that list. In many ways it was somewhat inevitable that K. Drew would make music his career. His father was a thriving drummer on the tour circuit, giving K. the distinction of hearing his first Springsteen show from inside the womb. He came out rockin' and never looked back. His dad moved from being a road musician to DJ'ing, even building a studio in the family's New Jersey home. While initially drawn to athletics, a curious K. took a peek inside the studio at the age of 14 and never looked back. "I wanted to see what was in there. It was old school old keyboards and a 8 track recording deck. The first thing I did was re-create songs I had heard on the radio, but made them the way I wanted them to sound. One thing led to another, I began to experiment more, and that got me started on making beats and recording them." Not really aware of his talent at the time, K. kept his artistic side to himself. A stellar school athlete, he played football, basketball and baseball, but also got the lead in every school play he tried out for, and because it was part of the curriculum, participated in school choir and chorus. When he went to high school, he kept up his sport activities, but wasn't quite sure what to do with the music side. "When I was doing choir and chorus in high school, I kinda got picked on for missing sports practices so I decided to put music on the back burner. I played baseball, football, basketball
but I felt like something was missing. I would look in the mirror and say, 'this isn't you, this isn't what you want to be doing.' " By the time he reached his junior year, the choice was clear to K. He secluded himself, got a computer and began composing music full time. Already an accomplished drummer thanks to his dad, K. taught himself piano and guitar, and began spending all his time on his song and beat writing, as well as self producing every thing he wrote. "I still got picked on for doing music but I was always thick skinned and it stopped mattering to me. Any way, people were jealous. I'd write songs and all the girls in my school would love them! " So obvious was K.'s talent that even though he no longer played on the school's football team, they asked him to write their theme song. At every game, the team would come out to the song he'd composed. And in a nod to his sports days, he kept the K.Drew moniker bestowed to him on the Basketball court. Once high school ended, K. decided to give college a try "for my parents." The oldest of five boys, K.'s heart wasn't in his studies. He didn't want his parents wasting money on sending him to school when he knew the only education he wanted could be found in a music studio. " I lasted about 2 weeks I kept cutting out to come in to New York City and work in the Studio. I am really lucky, my parents have been beyond supportive of my decision to make a career out of my love for music." Around this same time, K. played a musician friend some of his beats and that friend called his manager, John Levy, in to listen. K. sang for John as well, who decided right then he wanted to be a part of K.'s career. When one of Timbaland's partners found a K. Drew remix of "Morning After Dark" online, a buzz began to surround K. and offers were made. Instead, K. and John decided to put together their own company, Indie Music Group, once again showing foresight beyond his years. "We put Indie together like any other company; we got ourselves in the right place financially, put together a budget, and started our own label. I want to be a part of every single thing I do in music, from writing to producing to remixing to even putting out the songs." While he has an innate understanding of the music business, K.'s passion still lies in his songwriting. With Michael Jackson as is his biggest influence (and BAD the first record he ever bought), K. shares a trait with another hero when he's in the studio. Like Lil Wayne, K. goes in to the booth and starts singing without writing down a lyric. "I can be any where and it will just come out. I go in to the zone, beginning with making a beat, and then start singing a melody. I let my brain go, close my eyes and stay in the moment, thinking about what I would want to hear. Lyrics and melody just come out, I don't know how. It's like they were already written for me without me knowing it!" What is the K. Drew sound? It's a pop/R&B hybrid with a beat, a unique blend of harmony and attitude, sincere ballads and pumped up in-your-face bounce. With K., the physical is nearly as important as the musical- his groove has a move. Dancing and showmanship is a big part of what K. does and he can't wait to bring his music to more people. After being flown out to a club in Detroit, and performing at the Bowery Poetry Club in NYC to ecstatic audiences, K. is taking the time to put together a show that's going to blow people's minds. In it for the long haul, there's no doubt to K. that this is just the beginning for him. Looking at fellow artist Drake inspires K. to do what he keeps on doing. "I like Drake a lot, he does his own thing and he's true to himself. That's what I got going on too. I do what I feel in the moment and just go with it. I love all types of music, I don't want to limit myself. Making my music, studying it, living it, getting better every day, that's what I am all about."
