Members of Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be backing up C.C. Banana when he tributes fat chicks with a KISS cover. Here is the announcement: Rock & roll comic C.C. Banana, known for his outrageous interviews with rockers and other celebrities, becomes the latest addition to the upcoming tribute album "WHOLE LOTTA LOVE: An All-Star Salute To Fat Chicks." C.C. performs a faithful rendition of the underground Kiss track "Spit," a song from their 1992 album "Revenge." Originally sung by Gene Simmons (with an assist from Paul Stanley), "Spit" is an unapologetic rock & roll rant about the pleasures of pleasuring a large-sized lady. It is also the second Kiss song covered by C.C. Banana in his brief music career, the first being a parody of "Unholy," rewritten as a roast of Danger Danger frontman Ted Poley and appearing on the 2008 album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." C.C. has amended the title of the track from "Spit" to "Split," in deference to his unique banana pedigree.
As C.C. Banana explains, "For the follow-up to my contribution to the Vinnie Vincent tribute, for which I recorded a Kiss song from the 'Revenge' album sung by Gene Simmons, I decided to record a Kiss song from the 'Revenge' album sung by Gene Simmons (albeit with a slight change of title, to better reflect my yellow magnificence). What can I say? Split happens!"
Providing music for the track are members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's west and east coast touring companies (respectively), Angus Clark and David Z. Clark has been a continuing member of TSO since 2001 and Z toured with them from 2000 through 2006. David is also a member of rising rock act ZO2, who toured with Kiss on their Rock The Nation Tour with Poison and can currently be seen in the weekly television series "Z Rock" on the Independent Film Channel.
"Kiss is my favorite band so I was more than pleased to cover one of their songs," says David Z. "When ZO2 was on tour with them a few years ago, we would ask them to play the most obscure Kiss tunes during soundcheck. 'Spit' was always one of the songs we'd request. Naturally, it was a real thrill getting to work with the one and only C.C. Banana! I had a complete blast working on this track."
"Any time C.C. Banana calls, you answer!" insists Angus Clark. "Heck, I actually practiced my part! Bruce Kulick used some sort of flange effect on the original to give it that Hendrix vibe, so I dialed up something similar and had at it." In addition to his tenure with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Clark has also toured with famed New Age artist Kitaro and is currently hard at work on his newest musical venture, DareDevil Squadron.
Joining David Z on bass and Angus Clark on lead guitar are Charlie Zeleny (Jordan Rudess, Blotted Science, Behold... The Arctopus) on drums and Kelli McCloud (Days Before Tomorrow, dedLilith) on co-lead vocals, singing the Paul Stanley parts from a female point of view. The track was arranged and produced by Paul LaPlaca (Chris Caffrey, The Great Kat, Zandelle), who also contributes rhythm guitar.
Concluding with a comment on the theme of the album, C.C. Banana confirms, "For the record, I am a lifelong admirer of the overripe female figure. Like a luscious fruit, a bigger woman is all the juicier. Especially if she's pear-shaped or has ample melons! Without a doubt, these girls put the HEAVY in METAL"
A sample of the song is now available at the official "WHOLE LOTTA LOVE" MySpace page.
