Peter Salett has announced summer tour dates with The Swell Season. The acclaimed songwriter and composer is touring in support of his latest solo effort, Addicted to Distraction, out August 17.Recorded in Brooklyn, Addicted to Distraction is a departure from Salett's recent solo work. Salett explains, "I knew that for this collection of songs I wanted the shiny sounds of horns more than the ornate strings of my previous record. Every choice on the record reflects that; it's an upbeat sense of being in the moment, vibrant more than intense, joy even in darkness."
The album features arrangements by legendary trumpet player Steven Bernstein, who has played with artists including Lou Reed and The Lounge Lizards, and has collaborated with Hal Willner on several projects. Addicted to Distraction was produced by Salett and recorded with his longtime bandmates Bill Dobrow on drums (Martha Wainwright, Sean Lennon), Jeff Hill on bass (Rufus Wainwright), Joe McGinty on piano and organ (Ryan Adams), and Don Piper on lap steel and electric guitar.
In addition to his solo work, Salett is a regular collaborator on the films of numerous producers and directors, including Judd Apatow, Edward Norton and David Wain. He has written songs for several films including Get Him To The Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Role Models and Wet Hot American Summer, and scored the Cannes Film Festival selection Down in the Valley. As an actor, his many comedic cameos (usually playing an instrument) include Role Models, Superbad, The Ten, and Wet Hot American Summer.
