The evocative forthcoming release of a new album, The Last Tibetan Midnight (due out February 16 on Zai Records) and tour by Northern-California born band The Greening continues along their original mission statement, to develop a whole new iconic pop rock sound through experimentation and making interjections of psychedelic calamity into every song. The Greening mix up all the classic sounds from stylings like garage rock craziness and catchy jump pop and heavy acid rock noise. The years since their 2003 debut album, After Shoal Parlor, which established The Greening as a new sound institution, have been a rocky but lucrative journey. They've been writing and learning and self-teaching three albums worth of music, putting together the perfect mixture of recording cacophonous percussion and crazy rock panic conviction and going around San Francisco, refining performances of powerful rhythms and convincing vocal sets.
While playing random concerts in random venues up and down the California coastlines and inland, a video was developed by local animator Danny Ochoa for The Greening's hit, "Sunday Afternoon," which was released on 2009's (She's So) Electric EP.
Always exploring new ways to experiment creatively, every member of The Greening contributed towards the construction of their own private studio to really get to the musical grindstone while recording over 20 songs for the eventual release of multiple subsequent albums. 10 of these songs made it onto The Last Tibetan Midnight. The remaining songs will be released next year, but included as part of the band's upcoming live performances.
