Dundee is about to show the world how to lay it down
The Law, that is
With howling vocals, pummeling guitars, and juggernaut drumming, The Law is the latest force to be reckoned with coming out of Scotland's indie music scene. The young quartet delivers triumphant melodies with aggressive arena-scale rock that brings to mind a concoction of Queens of the Stone Age, The Libertines, and the White Stripes. The Law's buzz-worthy debut album, A MEASURE OF WEALTH, was recorded at Sawmills Studios (the birthplace of Oasis' DEFINITELY, MAYBE) with producer Stan Kybert (Paul Weller, Massive Attack), and released in the United Kingdom last year on the band's very own label Local Boy Records. A MEASURE OF WEALTH will be released in North America in May, 2010. Potent and concise, the band's name pays homage to two very powerful forces of nature the first being hometown Dundee's dormant volcano nicknamed "The Law" (a volcano in Scotland, who knew?!), and the second is a nod to one of the band's main influences, punk legends The Clash and their classic version of "I Fought The Law".
The Law's subversive anthems and hot-blooded performances have assaulted the UK press and commanded widespread support from XFM and BBC Music. Edith Bowman of BBC Radio 1 hails The Law as "Incredible, good rock n roll", while NME proclaims that "The Law are Dundee's new hope". The buzz has now gone worldwide with the inclusion of the band's single "Don't Stop, Believe" in the trailer for the major motion picture "The Men Who Stare At Goats" starring George Clooney (click here to check it out: www.youtube.com/thelawmusic), while another track from A MEASURE OF WEALTH, "The Man In The Moon," will be featured in the hit ABC Family Channel's show "Greek" on Monday, February 1st. The band's commanding sound also sparked the interest of legendary graphic artist John Pasche who went on to design the band's logo. (Pasche is best known for designing the iconic tongue and lips logo for The Rolling Stones!)
The Law has recently toured with The View, Air Traffic, The Rascals and were invited as special guests of Paul Weller. The band had a fateful moment in their career when asked to replace Ladyhawke in their headlining slot at the UK's 2009 T in The Park festival at the very last minute. After wrapping up a set of winter tour dates in Europe, the band will hit the States to melt our pretty little faces with dates in New York and Los Angeles, as well as in Austin for this year's SXSW festival. The Law is Stuart Purvey (vocals), Stevie Anderson (guitar), brothers Simon Donald (bass) and Martin Donald (drums).
