Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. The Kottonmouth Kings return with their brand new album "Long Live the Kings " which hits stores today. To celebrate two members of the group have picked their favorite songs from the effort and will tell us a little bit about each one. Today we hear from Daddy X who tells us about the song "Mad Respect":I chose the track "Mad Respect" off of Long Live the Kings. It was one of the last tracks we recorded for the album. We had started working on the track before we left for Hawaii and my production partner Mike Kumagai put the finishing touches on the track and emailed it to us while we were there. We played our shows and stayed for a couple of extra days. We went to Hana in Maui which is the most amazing spot on the planet and played the track over and over while driving an old road to get there. We have always felt that KMK never gets the respect or recognition we deserve from critics or the media, so we kinda wrote the song from being disrespected and misunderstood. "We gotta whole lotta whole lotta whole lotta nothing to offer. We gotta whole lotta whole lotta whole lotta nothing to give. We got a ounce of love and a pound of conversation. We gotta axe to grind until we find respect". That was the hook and then we just dug into the verses with passion. Dirtball spit some of the most intense rhyme patterns ever recorded! Overall I love the track's attack and energy!! We'll be back on Thursday with another song story from KmK. But for now, hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
