Grindcore septet Dr. Acula are getting ready to release their sophomore LP, The Social Event of the Century this week via Uprising Records. Also look for the band to tour this summer with party metal unit, Attila."We called the album that because musically the album is like a big party." Joey, who handles samples/electronics for the band, described the meaning behind the new album title (to be released on the bud-friendly date of 4.20).
Of course by party the band mean infectious grind coupled with death metal breakdowns, the directness of hardcore punk, dual vocals, post-rap attitude, samples and crushing breakdown after breakdown.
Following 2008's full-length Below Me (pronounced Blow Me) Joey says "The new music is much heavier but at the same time it's more mature. There's much more of a hardcore influence but also a lot of those weird parts that make Dr Acula."
