The Postelles have announced a July 27th release date for their eponymous debut album on Astralwerks/Capitol Records. The quartet from the Upper West Side of Manhattan, who formed in high school and are currently still just 21 to 22 years of age, co-produced the 11-song album with the Stroke's guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. For the last two years, The Postelles have been feverishly working towards the release of their first album and refining their sound by playing everywhere from small clubs to major festivals around the globe, garnering attention from fans and critics each step of the way.
"We've been working at this for quite a while and still have a long way to go, expressed front-man Daniel Balk. But we're so excited to release this album, to get out there and continue to tour and share our music and hopefully help some people have a little fun while we're at it."
While citing influences as diverse as the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Buddy Holly, Lou Reed and Sam Cooke, The Postelles are a difficult band to put in a box. One thing that critics agree on, is that The Postelles bring an element of refreshing fun and excitement to their catchy, upbeat tunes. Spin has said "they serve up a hooked-at-the-gills, head-bopping rock'n'roll groove," while Rolling Stone has described The Postelles as "sounding like the wound-up early hours of what will be a long Saturday night on the town." EW describes their sound as "sunny garage-bob," with Q Magazine describes them as having "sheer charm and melodies that hook their way into your synapses and refuse to let go."
In March The Postelles released a brand new EP White Night with three new songs, "White Night," "Sleep on the Dance Floor," and "Looking Glass," and an exclusive remix of "Sleep on the Dance Floor" by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor. To celebrate the release of White Night, the Postelles are giving away a free download of the title track on their website www.thepostelles.com. They are currently in the midst of a nationwide tour with Hockey, they will be playing Spaceland on Monday, April 12th, and then a show at Skidmore College with The Walkmen on April 23rd. The Postelles will head to the UK in May to play a run of shows that include a Support Tour with The Futureheads, two shows at Camden Crawl and a show at Club NME at Koko, before returning home to play Bonnaroo and a record release show on July 28th at their favorite hometown venue, the Bowery Ballroom. The quartet has also appeared at Lollapalooza, All Points West, Iceland Airwaves, SXSW and CMJ, and played recent gigs with Vampire Weekend, Yeasayer, and Fanfarlo. They are expected to announce another string of US summer tour dates soon. The Postelles consist of Daniel Balk (lead vocals, guitar), David Dargahi (lead guitar), John Speyer (bass) and Billy Cadden (drums).
