Pulp Fiction Writer Going To Jail For Fatal DUI

09/30/2009
.
(antiMusic) All is not "Kool and the Gang" for the Oscar-winning screenwriter of "Pulp Fiction," who was sentenced to a year in jail and five years of probation on Tuesday following a guilty plea for a fatal drunk driving accident.

Roger Avary, who won the Oscar along with Quentin Tarantino for writing Pulp Fiction, pleaded guilty in August to gross vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving.

The charges came from a 2008 crash in Ventura County, California where a passenger in Avary's Mercedes was killed when Avary hit a telephone poll while traveling at more than 100 mph.

According to Wikipedia: On January 13, 2008, Avary was arrested under suspicion of manslaughter and DUI, following a car crash in Ojai, California where a passenger, Andreas Zini, was killed.

The Ventura County Sheriff's department responded to the accident after midnight Sunday morning on the 19-hundred block of East Ojai Avenue. Sheriff's deputies allege Avary's wife was ejected from the car, but she is reportedly in stable condition. Avary was released from jail on $50,000 bail.

In December, 2008, he was charged with, and pleaded not guilty to, gross vehicular manslaughter and two felony counts of causing bodily injury while intoxicated. He later changed his plea to guilty on August 18, 2009.
