(PR) Spanning the electronic music spectrum from laid back synth-pop and hard-hitting electro to its self-coined "dreamwave" sound, Binary's debut release, Binary Presents: LA Lights, will be released digitally on October 13. The label's inaugural album culls together 14 tracks from a variety of Los Angeles-based electro musicians, producers and DJs, giving an impressive sampling of its eclectic roster that has begun to carve out a niche at home and abroad.
The introductory offering from the L.A. label features two tracks each from their seven artists: Alfa, Fabian, Keenhouse, LexiconDon, NightWaves, Short Circuit, and The Kids Are Radioactive. While the tempo varies from song to song, the album is threaded together with a unifying desire to capture the essence of L.A., from the sun-kissed waves of the Pacific Ocean to the palm tree-lined streets of Hollywood and the neon and grit of the downtown cityscape.
LexiconDon kicks off the album with the up-tempo pop swagger of "SWMG" as he sings about "staying with my girl" and from there the album alternates back and forth from dance floor bangers like The Kids Are Radioactive's "Higher" and Fabian's fist-pumper "Galourni" to the '80s Knight Rider-esque grooves of Alfa's "Turismo." Short Circuit delivers computerized vocoder-filled techno on "Music Machine," while Keenhouse mellows the mood with the synth-laden, pulsing dreaminess of "Ari-es," a perfect example of his sound, described by URB as a "balanced synthesis of retro-futurism." NightWaves stay true to their name with their nocturnal "dreamwave," a term coined by band members and Binary founders Josh Legg and Kyle Petersen to describe their electro sound that emphasizes emotions in dance music and consists of melodic, song-based compositions, vintage synthesizers, and draws heavy influence from Southern California's sunny landscape.
Binary Presents: LA Lights marks the first release on Binary Entertainment Group's newly launched record label division. A full-service music management firm and music blog, the multi-faceted company was formed by L.A. transplants Legg and Petersen in February 2008 as a place to foster their vision and to promote the positive aspects that Los Angeles has come to signify around the world. With several eclectic releases planned for 2010, Binary Presents: LA Lights serves as an electrifying sample of what the future holds for these dreamwave pioneers.
