Thom Yorke Plans All For The Best

09/04/2009
.
(PR) Thom Yorke has announced that there will be a video released for his cover of Mark Mulcahy's song "All For The Best," directed by Melinda Tupling, which will be screened for the first time at the September 20th benefit concert for the project Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs Of Mark Mulcahy, in stores September 29th on Shout! Factory.

The concert will be held at Music Hall in Williamsburg, NY, featuring performances by Frank Black, David Berkeley, surprise guests, and new additions to the roster include Butterflies of Love, The Autumn Defense, Ray Neal, Chris Harford, the Late BP Helium, The Parkway Charlies, Winterpills, The Gravel Pit, The Mericans, Lo Fine, Biet and Gryphon, School for the Dead, Spouse, and Senator.

Thom York's version of "All For The Best" is being released as a single in the U.K. with a limited number of 7" being made available there and in the U.S. The recording of song, which features both Thom and Andy Yorke, was the first time that the brothers have worked together. Andy Yorke also contributed the title track to the album, "Ciao My Shining Star," with his band Unbelievable Truth.

Mulcahy's wife Melissa passed away suddenly in September 2008, and proceeds from the concert and sales of the album will go to Mulcahy to help him continue his music career while raising his 3-year-old twin daughters. The Shout! Factory release Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, is a tribute to the CT-based former Miracle Legion front man, and features 21 exclusive recordings by Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, Dinosaur Jr., The National, Frank Black, Juliana Hatfield, and Vic Chesnutt, among others. In addition, a further 20 tracks, from artists such as A.C. Newman, Buffalo Tom and Laura Veirs, will be available digitally.

For the September 20th show, the artists involved will be performing songs by Mulcahy as well as their own. The concert will also feature readings by graphic novelist Ben Katchor. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations or charge by phone at 800-745-3000, and can also be purchased for no service charge at the Mercury Lounge, or at www.musichallofwilliamsburg.com. The box office phone number is (212) 260-4700.

CT-based Mulcahy was the front man and main songwriter for alternative rock band Miracle Legion in the 1980s to mid 1990s. Mulcahy also fronted Polaris, the house band for the mid 1990s alternative television series The Adventures of Pete & Pete (1993–96) and perhaps best remembered for the song "Hey Sandy," which was featured in the opening credits of the show. Mulcahy has opened up for many notable artists, including Oasis and Jeff Buckley, and has received homage from Radiohead front man Thom Yorke, who dedicated a song to Mulcahy at a show in Boston. Nick Hornby wrote an essay on Mulcahy's song "Hey Self-Defeater" (from the album Fathering) in his book 31 Songs. Michael Stipe has called Mulcahy "one of the great voices of our time."
