New Order's Sumner To Bring Bad Lieutenant to US

10/08/2009
.
(HER) While a major North American tour is being planned for 2010, Bad Lieutenant - the new project helmed by Joy Division/New Order's Bernard Sumner - announces their U.S. concert debut with two very special headline shows - Wednesday, November 18 at the Park West in Chicago, and Saturday, November 21 at Webster Hall in New York.

Tickets for the Chicago date go on sale at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 10 at and can be purchased through Ticketmaster outlets - ticketmaster.com - or charge by phone 800-745-3000. The New York show will go on sale at 12NOON on Friday, October 9 and tickets will be available via Ticketmaster outlets - ticketmaster.com

These shows are in support of Bad Lieutenant's debut album, Never Cry Another Tear which was released digitally on October 2 exclusively through Amazon.com (and remains an Amazon Top 5 seller); beginning October 13, Amazon.com will exclusively offer the physical CD for sale; on November 10, Never Cry Another Tear will be available through all other retail outlets via a partnership with Original Signal Recordings.

Sharing Bad Lieutenant vocals duties with Sumner is Jake Evans, an up-and-coming singer from the UK. "We worked hard on the album and I'm proud of it," says Sumner. "It's also important because it gives people the chance to hear Jake Evans, a gifted singer and guitar player who I think is very talented. This is just how I now want to make music."

The core members of Bad Lieutenant - Sumner (guitars, vocals), Phil Cunningham (guitars), and Jake Evans (vocals, guitars), will be joined on these dates by former Joy Division/New Order drummer Stephen Morris (who also played on the new album) and bassist Tom Chapman. According to Sumner, "The bulk of the set will be Bad Lieutenant songs, but we'll also play some songs from my past, some New Order songs, some Joy Division, and a few other surprises. We're all very excited about coming back to the States."

The Chicago and New York dates will follow Bad Lieutenant's debut concert performances which will take place in the UK late October.

New Order, born from the ashes of the near-mythic English band Joy Division, was one of the most innovative and critically-acclaimed bands of the 1980s, embracing the electronic textures and dance rhythms of the underground club culture while maintaining a mysterious and distant image. The group's pioneering fusion of modern aesthetics and dance music successfully bridged the gap between the two worlds, creating a distinctively thoughtful and oblique brand of pop. Between 1981 and 2005, New Order released eight studio albums, sold millions of albums worldwide and amassed Gold and Platinum awards. In addition, the band's single "Blue Monday" bears the distinction of being the biggest-selling 12-inch of all time, having sold in excess of 3-million copies.
