(MVD) MVD Visual is proud to announce the worldwide DVD release of Tatsumaki: Voivod in Japan 2008 on November 17, 2009. This is the most bad ass band I ever heard in my life. Every musician has a signature, Voivod had four. Voivod sounded like no one else. They are one of a kind."- Dave Grohl (from bonus interview)This is the first show that the band has ever played in Japan. It's a three-camera shoot originally recorded in 2008 for TV broadcast. The band lineup consists of Away, Snake, new guitarist Dan Mongrain, and the original bass player Blacky. The setlist consists of material from the first 10 years of the band, some of which has not been played live in 17 years or more.
Martin Popoff, acclaimed Canadian rock critic and author, writes... A heart-wrenching story of death and inspiring uprising, Voivod bounced back from the passing of guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour with a duo of triumphant studio albums - Katorz and Infini - which used Denis' last tracks feverishly recorded as he knew he was not long for this world. After a period where grieving drummer Michel "Away" Langevin had declared the band over, surprise... Voivod are back!
In the guitar slot, legendary Quebec axe expert Dan Mongrain, who joins Michel, Snake and returning bassist Blacky for this fiercely creative and provocative show from 2008, not to mention metal-legendary touring into 2009, for a future that is all killing technology of black and purple hues. Call it original cyber-thrash, Crimson-ian dark prog metal, early on, maybe Venom-poisoned blackened thrash, and now, steam punk for virtuosos... whatever tags one tries to write up and affix, there's no arguing that these unearthly Quebec artistes of the extreme have influenced deeply metal, alternative and alternative metal around the world forever, not to mention into the realms of Dimension Hatross. Listen closely and study intently - Tatsumaki Voivod In Japan 2008 reveals loud realms of clanking unreality that can thrill and fill any thinking man's metal head with headbanging wonder.
