(PR) New York, listen up! The third annual Canadian BLAST! at CMJ is just around the corner and here's your chance to hear the bands that are blowing your northern neighbors away. Heat rises and that's sure to be the case for these smoking hot Canadian acts who are making their way South to play Canadian BLAST! at Arlene's Grocery (95 Stanton St.) on October 22nd. Come early, stay late
12:00am: Priestess has become one of Canada's most successful hard rock bands. Touring with heavy hitters like Megadeth, Motorhead, Mastadon, GWAR and participating in several high-profiled events such as Heavy MTL with Iron Maiden, Festival d'ιtι de Quebec with Stone Temple Pilots, and Monsters of Rock/Ozzfest with Ozzy Osbourne. Priestess' profile skyrocketed when their song Lay Down was featured in the smash-hit videogame Guitar Hero, earning them a legion of new fans. Their music has also been heard in the HBO series Entourage, Friday Night Lights and it was recently announced that their new song Raccoon Eyes will be on the upcoming EA Sports' NHL 10. 11:00pm: Jets Overhead will surely mesmerize crowds with their hypnotic take on ambient rock. The band was nominated for a Juno Award for New Group of the Year in 2007, and they've just released their sophomore album NO NATIONS on Neil Young's Vapor Records. The Los Angeles Times exclaimed that "The band's lush, driving rock is the bristling, slightly psychedelic offspring of the likes of Radiohead and Pink Floyd." 10:00pm: Classified never abandoned his ethos of working hard and paying one's dues. He has steadily built his career from the independent circuit on up to national prominence, developing into a highly respected MC and desired producer. He has opened for some of the most influential hip hop artists including Nas, Wu Tang and D-12 and is known by heads around the world. Having just returned from a major Australian tour, Classified is now set to take on America with the release of his newest record Self-Explanatory in early 2010. 9:00pm: Grand Analog a raw collective of seasoned record collectors, musicians and self described beat junkies. Leader Odario Williams describes the Grand Analog sound as a beautiful mess of rap'n'roll, dub and soul. The band's critically acclaimed new album, Metropolis Is Burning, boasts an infectious array of soundscapes that is unbalanced and dirty; never clean. It's fuzzy with three coats of dust and reads like an old manual no longer in use. The album is currently #1 on CBC Radio 3 and the Canadian College Radio Hip Hop charts. "Grand Analog continues to sweeten its hip-hop cocktail by spiking the punch with everything they can get their hands on: blazing rock guitars, dubby reggae, wah-wah funk, Bo Diddley beats and even a smoking kazoo solo." 8:00pm: Spiral Beach (www.spiralbeach.com) may be young but their music has been catching the attention of some industry heavyweights and has landed them some high profile tours with bands like Tokyo Police Club, Spinto Band, Sloan and The Hidden Cameras. The band's upcoming release The Only Really Thing was produced by Mike Olsen (The Hidden Cameras & The Arcade Fire) and boasts a 13-track collection of playful melodies set to hit September 22 via Sparks Music/Tommy Boy. After their highly anticipated CMJ appearance the band will head to Ireland for a national tour and will then take on the rest of Europe including Munich where they'll perform at the -on3- festival at Bavarian Broadcast Studios. Canadian BLAST! events at SXSW, Popkomm, The Great Escape, and CMJ have generated major international attention for artists like METRIC, Shad, Malajube, and The Trews. Canadian BLAST! at CMJ is a comprehensive marketing, networking, and business development initiative supported by a public/private partnership that includes CIRPA (Canadian Independent Record Production Association), SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada), ADISQ (Association quιbιcoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle, et de la video) and the Government of Canada.
