This is another story that broke over the long weekend; here it is again in case you missed it. (antiMusic) The Deftones put on a two night benefit show last week to help benefit their bandmate Chi Cheng who is recovering from a major accident. Here is part of the band's recap of the event: Deftones would like to thank all of the incredible artists, sponsors, crew, supporters, fans and friends who made last Thursday and Friday an overwhelming success. The two night event commenced with special sets by POD, Far and Cypress Hill on night one. Deftones opened their Thursday night set with a brand new song "Rocket Skates" and continued through a show that included "Elite," "Be Quiet and Drive," and "My Own Summer." Each night the band was joined by some of Deftones' and Chi's close friends for some special collaborations exclusive to the nights. Night one included Ben Kenney from Incubus on "Street Carp," Mike Shinoda and Tommy Lee on "Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event," Xzibit on "Back to School," Jonah and Shawn from Far on the Jawbox cover "Savory," and Cypress Hill joining Deftones for a full band version of Cypress' "Rock Superstar." Friday night opened with longtime Chi Cheng favorites Fungo Mungo and Will Haven. Special guests on night two included Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Daron Malakian (System of A Down) and Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) on a punishing cover of Metallica's "Battery," an ensemble performance of Suicidal Tendencies' "War Inside My Head" with members of Suicidal, and Daron, John Dolmayan, and Shavo Odadjian of System performing "Aerials" and "Toxicity" with Chino on vocals. - Read more and check out photos here
