(antiMusic) Evanscapps, the side project of Ean Evans (bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Bobby Capps (keyboardist for .38 Special), is set to release their new album, "Last Time," on May 12th. To celebrate the release we asked Bobby Capps to give us the inside story to the first single from the album, "Innocence". Here is Bobby with the story behind the song! The song "Innocence" was a musical passage that Ean had played for me. Just like a lot of the songs on the CD, he had written the music as well as a title. On this one, he had written the lyrics on the chorus, "now I finally found my innocence" and the radio man parts, "you're free to go now." This rang true to me at that moment in my life as I had been struggling so hard for so long to make a mark as a singer/songwriter. Every door I knocked on was slammed in my face. I was told "you're too young" for many years, you need to do this or that and trust me, I did everything!!! Then one day I was told, "you're too old!!!" It took most of my life to figure out that a lot of people will cheat, lie, steal, or do whatever it takes to get ahead. I just couldn't believe it. I wasn't raised that way. Then going against everything I believed in, I started double-checking my surroundings, especially people who put me down, professionally and personally. I started realizing what was going on around me. So one day I sat down in a hotel room, who knows where, and wrote these lyrics. I would like to note that my friend and brother [bandmate] Ean [Evans] is very sick and although we did not always see eye to eye throughout the process of this CD, we always found a way to get through our differences and I would not have been able to have such a great representation of my work without someone so talented who finally believed in me. For that I am forever grateful!!! He and his family desperately need thoughts and prayers from all you reading this. "Innocence" I am inadequate. That's how I'm made to feel. I am replaceable. That's what I'm supposed to believe. Tired of the misery. It's time I found my way. Find me a better way. A better way to live. I'm not invincible. For that I'm not ashamed. And I'm not invisible when I got somethin' to say. I've learned a lot of things. And I now know right from wrong. I gotta walk away I'm not afraid anymore. Now I finally found my innocence, Finally found my innocence, Finally found I'm free Now you're free to go now Now I finally found my innocence, Finally found my innocence. Finally found I'm free. Animosity ain't gonna to live. Not around here we'll I'm finally free. Yeah and I don't feel so fragile. I don't need a hand from anyone else. I'm just a simple man. Just fending for myself. I need nothing at all from nobody else. Now I finally found my innocence, Finally found my innocence, Finally found I'm free. Now you're free to go now Now I finally found my innocence, Finally found my innocence, Finally found I'm free. Now you're free to go now I'm just a simple man, just fending for myself, And I need nothin' at all from nobody else. Now I finally found my innocence, Finally found my innocence, Finally found I'm free. Now you're free to go now Now I finally found my innocence, Finally found my innocence, Finally found I'm free. Now you're free to go now Now I finally found my Now I found my, Now I finally found innocence. Now you're free to go now Check out more about the band, the album and this song right here!
