(Glass Onyon) Hailing from Austin, Texas, live music capitol of the world, Black Bone Child is a creation like no other. In a world of music hybrids, members Donny James and Kenneth M. are offering a new incite into the world of blending the old with the new. Between an exciting fresh take on slide guitar and driving distorted bass lines, this energetic and rhythmically based rock is sure to keep the dance floors packed and listeners hanging on every note. With all the hoopla that has followed the release of Black Bone Child's eponymous debut CD, Donny and Kennth are preparing to tour in support of the release.
The duo has added members to the live ensemble. "Jason King plays guitar along with me in the band," says Donny. " What a great artist! He is really in tune to what we are doing and you can tell that he loves playing his instrument. All around just a great addition to the band. Steve Hudson plays drums. Having Steve come out and sit down made for an easy choice for the 4th member. He has a way of locking up with Kenneth that makes the rhythm section undeniable. The live act would not be the same without him."
In the spring of 2008, in association with White Door Entertainment, BBC has self-produced their debut album at White Door Studios in Austin, TX. The result is a product that showcases not only BBC’s songwriting and playing abilities, but also their talents from the other side of the microphone as engineers and producers and even their eye for graphic design. Black Bone Child is a perfect example of a growing niche of completely self-produced "Do it yourself" musicians, paving the way through an industry clustered with ancient business models.
Black Bone Child's debut CD displays a vari ety of styles making it impossible to pigeon-hole the group. "My influences are quite a diverse group," explains Donny. "I tend to enjoy more aggressive and/or somber songs. I enjoy the extremes , Marilyn Manson to Dave Brubeck. I enjoy all sorts of types of music I try to think of it in terms of song to song rather than genre to genre. A good song is a good song. What makes a good song? One that moves you. I enjoy listening to everything that moves me. My most recently acquired influences would be Tom Waits and Scott H. Biram." "Black Bone Child is a total departure from the influences that started me out as a musician," adds Kenneth. "The last project Donny and I were in was heavily influenced by NIN and Tool, but I feel like those influences have worked their way out of us. Artists that make me want to write today would have to include PJ Harvey, Tom Waits, and BRMC. More roots based alternative music, than hard rock. I do listen to a lot of different music but those artists would make it to my 'Desert Island Discs' list."
