New Pixies Book

03/13/2009
.
(Rock Reader) Attention Pixies fans! A new limited edition book, Pixies: In Print, collects all of the revered and influential band's essential press interactions. Focusing on the group's 1987 – 1992 heyday and its subsequent 2004 – 2007 reunion, Pixies: In Print chronicles the history of the Boston-bred musical icons through essential interviews, essays and articles.

Limited to just 1000 copies, the first edition of Pixies: In Print is available for preview and immediate purchase from Rock Reader Books/Lulu here. The book was compiled and edited by John D. Luerssen.

Fusing punk's jagged roar with a keen sense of melody and an affinity for surf music, The Pixies – vocalist/guitarist Black Francis, bassist/vocalist Kim Deal, drummer David Lovering and guitarist Joey Santiago -- became one of the most influential American bands of alternative rock's first wave.

Pixies: In Print traces the band's thrilling journey, chronicling its challenges and successes during its initial seven year run. Formed in Boston in 1986, the group's brief anthems, unorthodox song structures and lyrics about space, sex, religion, mutilation and sludge from New York and New Jersey quickly resonated with college radio audiences and the British music weeklies.

Major chart success in Europe followed, coupled with mainstream acceptance by MTV and even rock giants U2 – who ultimately picked the band as the opening act on their U.S. tour. But for a group well ahead of its time, such pressures eventually took their toll, leading the Pixies to split in 1993. But before they imploded, their influence was felt by future giants like Nirvana and Weezer, as well as countless others who thrived during the alternative rock boon.

In 2004, eleven years after their official split, the Pixies reconvened for touring purposes and finally reaped their financial comeuppance and long overdue acclaim. Highlighted by performances at Coachella, T in the Park, Roskilde, Pinkpop and V festivals, the band continued to perform into 2007.
