(antiMusic) Given that this topic is in the news lately because of two high profile popstars, we decided to carry this announcement even though it has nothing directly to do with music. Here it is: DoSomething.org, one of the largest teen organizations in America, announced today the launch of a national campaign to raise awareness about teen dating abuse. Celebrities, politicians and parents have been reluctant to speak out on such a hot issue. But teens are stepping up to raise awareness by participating in DoSomething.org's 1 in 3 Campaign which calls attention to the statistic that 1 in 3 teens is a victim of physical, verbal, emotional or online abuse.
"1 in 3 teens is abused in a relationship! That is such horrifying statistic – your friend, your neighbor or your teammate could be a victim. Not enough people are talking about it, and certainly not enough people are doing anything about it. So it's up to teens to take action and spread the word for such an important issue," said Nancy Lublin, CEO of DoSomething.org
The goal of the 1 in 3 campaign is to encourage teens to raise awareness of this important issue by wearing the statistics:. 3 bracelets: 1 blue, 2 black. DoSomething.org is determined to spread the statistic, stop the abuse and keep teens safe. To do so, they've posted tips online on what to do if you if you are being abused or if you know someone who is being abused. Additionally DoSomething.org made the bracelets (free, of course) available to teens across the country to help promote the statistic and the important issue.
