(antiMusic) Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Mark Engles, the guitarist for Dredg tells us about "Information" from their brand new album "The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion". We now turn it over to Mark for the story:This song came from a score we did for the independent film "Waterborne". We liked the piano line over the very droney guitar pattern and new we had to use this piece somehow.
Once we decided to make it a rock song the verses came quickly. But it wasn't until Gavin wrote the chorus melody that we new it was a strong track.I love the departure of the middle part... lyrically very interesting and unique. We wanted to expand the song a bit and kind of go off on a tangent.
Some of the vocals in the outro were done in a tunnel up at Marin Headlands above the Golden Gate Bridge. Gavin sat in the middle of this large tunnel while Matt (producer) and I kept hikers and tourists from coming in. Turned out great. The song has a lot to offer... Atmospheric yet hooky and powerful. Hope you like it
