(PR) Brooklyn singer-songwriter April Smith has confirmed a two-week tour around her performance at LOLLAPALOOZA in Chicago. Smith, one of a very small number of unsigned artists chosen to play Lollapalooza, will also perform at the KahBang Festival in Maine (alongside Matt & Kim, Ra Ra Riot and Ida Maria), in addition to club dates in Cleveland, Indianapolis, Washington DC, and other markets.
The tour will conclude with a hometown show at New York's Bowery Ballroom on August 29. See below for a complete list of dates.
After considering the current state of the record industry, Smith recently decided to record and release her next album on her own. She will raise the $10,000 needed to record and manufacture the album from her fans via the KICKSTARTER website (www.kickstarter.com), a web platform where project creators can offer products, services or other benefits in exchange for fans' financial support for their project. Rewards for various levels of pledge toward Smith's recording costs include free music, autographed albums, a role in a future music video, dinner with Smith and her band and even a guest appearance onstage at one of her shows. Smith set a 75-day time limit for pledges, and is already halfway to her goal after just two weeks. For more information and to watch Smith's video about the project, see Smith received the award for BEST POP/ROCK SONG for "Colors" in the 8TH ANNUAL INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS last year, and received an additional nomination for "Best Live Performance Album" for her LIVE FROM THE PENTHOUSE EP. She was BMI's 2009 designee for the Songwriters Hall of Fame's ABE OLMAN SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCELLENCE IN SONGWRITING, which was presented to her by songwriting legend Lamont Dozier; previous winners include John Legend and Lori McKenna. Smith's music has been featured on the hit MTV shows "The Hills" and "Newport Harbor." She was also recently featured on Perez Hilton's blog as "the kind of tune you'd hear on an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' or in the next iPod commercial."
