(Kayos) Many talents have graced the Montreux stage in the past, but on July 14, 2008, it hosted a very special evening of music. An incredible wealth of musicians appeared to honor one of the most influential and prolific creative forces in recorded music – Quincy Jones. On July 21, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Quincy Jones: The 75th Birthday Celebration Live at Montreux on DVD and Blu-ray. Celebrating his 75th birthday, Quincy enjoyed presentations of countless musical gems performed by a varied array of artists, including Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, James Moody, Mick Hucknall, Petula Clark, Billy Cobham and Lee Ritenour. Backed by the Montreux house band (Greg Phillinganes and David Delhomme on keyboard, Paul Jackson, Jr. on guitar, Nathan East on bass, John Robinson on drums, and percussionist Paulinho da Costa), the crowd was regaled with renditions of "Cool Joe, Mean Joe (Killer Joe)," "Let The Good Times Roll," "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," "Billie Jean," and many other divine and timeless songs. Clocking in at over two hours, this 2DVD and Blu-ray contains the bonus feature "Thank Q" with behind-the-scenes footage. Founded in 1967, the annual Montreux Jazz Festival is considered one of the most prestigious music events in the world. Quincy has shared a long history with the Montreux Jazz Festival, so this was the perfect venue to revel in the magic his creativity has conjured. Quincy Jones, an acclaimed arranger, composer, producer, and bandleader, has left his signature mark in the realms of jazz, pop, soul, gospel, R&B, classical, world, and blues. He has nurtured a countless array of talents, including the late Michael Jackson, whom he helped develop from a talented kid into an international superstar. 2008 was an exceptionally special year for Jones, as he was named an Ambassador at the Grammys, and served as Artistic Advisor for the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. It seems only fitting that he would enjoy such a riveting performance to honor him in his 75th year.
