Music Pros Giving Free Lecture and Jam

07/10/2009
.
(PR) Koffeehouse Music Productions, LLC, along with influential music industry pros, will be offering advice on the business July 13, 2009 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Indie Inspiration J.A.M. (Jazzed and Motivated) Session, a free educational music event and industry mixer at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. Industry speakers include former Matchbox 20 guitarist Adam Gaynor, songwriter and singer Kari Kimmel, cellist Tina Guo, and Christopher Sampson.

The featured presenters will discuss topics such as how to sell 25 million records, license music for film and television, and create a lucrative career in music and songwriting. Guests are invited to bring their own acoustic instruments (or voice) and participate in a group jam with the speakers. This evening of enlightening lectures caters to industry professionals and up-and-comers. Community members and students from music institutes in Southern California have been invited to attend, so that they can learn from the pros.

"In our current economy, it's tough for students to stay in school and continue to pay the bills," said Jeremy Koff, founder of Koffeehouse Music Productions. "It's also harder for musicians to get a job. This event allows students and professionals in the industry to collaborate in expressing music, as well as gain useful advice from the pros, at no cost."

A preamble to Koffeehouse Productions' annual indie concert that showcases new talent to the industry on July 25th, the event is open to the public. J.A.M. Sessions are designed for everyone, from the completely inexperienced to professionals. Reservations can be made at www.FordTheatres.org - click on Events, then J.A.M. Sessions - or by calling the Ford Box Office at 323 461-3673.

Speakers will include:
Adam Gaynor: Recruited to Matchbox 20 from Miami's Criteria Recording Studios, Adam Gaynor recorded three albums with the band: "Yourself or Someone Like You," "Mad Season," and "More Than You Think You Are." He will discuss what it takes to sell 25 million albums.

Kari Kimmel: Singer / songwriter Kari Kimmel has written and performed songs for movies such as "White Chicks" and "Shall We Dance." Her songs have also been featured in television shows such as "The Gilmore Girls," "The Young and the Restless," and "The Hills." She will discuss the world of licensing songs to television and film.

Tina Guo: Classical and rock cellist Tina Guo has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras, including the San Diego Symphony and the State of Mexico National Symphony. She has performed with Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, John Legend and LeAnn Rimes. She will discuss opportunities in the classical and rock music worlds, and how to cross those boundaries.

Christopher Sampson: An Associate Dean and Professor of songwriting at the USC Thornton School of Music, Christopher Sampson will discuss the process of songwriting.
