(Audible Treats) New York based multimedia and hip-hop recording artist Bisco Smith is proud to reveal his newest project, The Broadcast. The album, produced from start to finish by J.Vegus, with all art and design by Smith himself, is Bisco Smith's fifth release and will be available this fall.To reflect the new chapter in his musical progression, Bisco Smith has decided to make the switch from his long time moniker Bisc1, and with his new title and new project, Bisco finds a new, more developed sound in The Broadcast. He and J.Vegus work together to highlight a musical direction that amplifies the broadcast theme.
In regard to the title and theme behind his new album, Bisco Smith states, "The Broadcast title and concept have a few layers. One, references to radios and the overall theme of tuning in show up in many of the tunes I was writing so it seemed to almost craft itself. The other thought is that the music and words are this signal I am sending out to the world and hopefully the range of listeners broadens while it is being broadcasted."
The album's first single "Morning Breath" serves as a statement about how Bisco feels during his artistic travels. It is a welcome to the "marathon of life," as Bisco says. "A coming to terms with the idea that life, and more specifically the creation of art is not a race, but a marathon. In the end, no matter what path you take, personality you fit, or hustle you choose, you're going to get to where you're supposed to be." His artistic mindset comes across in this track: refreshed and better than ever. This combines with the new direction of J.Vegus' production, meshing hip-hop with down tempo, dubstep, and electronica influences, to build a new and improved album with a new and improved sound.
Bisco Smith moved to NYC 10 years ago from Connecticut and quickly made a name for himself DJ'ing at clubs, distributing mixtapes, and in graffiti circles. Soon, Bisco picked up the mic and won several battle raps including the Whose Line Is It monthly at the Knitting Factory in NYC four consecutive months in a row. His debut release, The Basics EP (2006), gained the favorable attention of music critics and his subsequent release, The Stay Up Project mixtape (2007) was downloaded over 5,000 times. Bisco's penchant for capturing our chaotic reality with his narratives, images, and collaborations has earned him a reputation as one of the most honest and creative artists of today. Going beyond music, Bisco Smith is also an accomplished graphic artist. He's done cover art, designed promotional materials and spearheaded art direction for artists such as Aesop Rock, The Perceptionists, C-Rayz-Walz, Murs, El-P, and others. His art has been featured in several magazines and art house coffee table books and in galleries, such as Danny Simmon's Rush Arts Gallery. 2008 was a big year for Bisco. He released the critically acclaimed album When Electric Night Falls, toured the US, and performed at CMJ, SXSW, Scribble Jam, and NXNE. Since the start of 2009, Bisco has already released a multimedia project entitled The Strange Love Project, and is now preparing for the release of The Broadcast. It is clear that he shows no sign of slowing down. He spends his time designing everything from record covers to websites, painting walls, participating in art gallery shows, and mentoring the city's youth with art and music, all the while transmitting top quality music to the world. Prepare to tune into Bisco Smith's forthcoming LP, The Broadcast, available this fall.
