(PR) Warner Bros Records is proud to announce the October 6, 2009 release of The Listening, the debut full-length album from Lights. The Toronto singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist crafts her own brand of sparkling, otherworldly electro-pop that is, in her words "soft, but not pussy-soft, you know?" Lights' songs have already garnered almost 16 million plays on MySpace, and she has racked up a #1 hit on MuchMusic, inclusion in a series of Old Navy commercials, and airtime on The Hills. On the strength of her self-titled EP alone, Lights won the 2009 Juno (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy Award) for New Artist of the Year, joining the ranks of Feist and Nelly Furtado.
During her stint on this summer's Van's Warped Tour Rolling Stone selected Lights as one of four Warped Tour Buzz Bands, calling her a "retro new wave
keytar-rocking pixie."
Lights' first full collection of music, The Listening, expands on her sound, which she calls "inter-galactic electro" and describes as "simple lyrics juxtaposed with sounds harvested from the far reaches of my alternate universe." The album includes a few songs already familiar to die-hard Lights fans, as well as plenty of new material including the first single, "Saviour," a propulsive pop anthem that represents the essence of Lights.
The video for "Saviour" premiered on MySpace Monday, August 10th and immediately shot to the number one spot. It has remained the number one video on MySpace with 620 thousand views and counting.
In addition to her rabid online fanbase, LIGHTS has been criss-crossing the globe winning support with her live show, playing countless sold out gigs in her home country as well as numerous festival dates in the UK. This fall LIGHTS will join Keane on their Canadian dates and will be touring extensively throughout the US.
