(Red Light) Acclaimed Irish singer Lisa Hannigan, whose debut album, Sea Sew, was recently nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize, will support David Gray on his upcoming North American tour, which launches on October 23rd in Boston.Released by ATO Records in the U.S. and on Hannigan's own Hoop Recordings in Ireland and the U.K. Earlier this year, Hannigan played sold-out shows in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and numerous other cities on her first headlining tour of the States, which culminated with three appearances at SXSW. She also performed on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "The Colbert Report."
Sea Sew was recorded in 14 days at a Dublin studio by Hannigan and a talented group of friends - Tom Osander (drums), Shane Fitzsimons (double bass), Donagh Molloy (trumpet, melodica and glockenspiel), Gavin Glass (piano), Lucy Wilkins (violin) and Vyvienne Long (cello). An album of elegant chamber pop arrangements and deceptively gentle folk-rock melodies, its songs have been heard on Los Angeles radio station KCRW and in episodes of "Grey's Anatomy," "Brothers & Sisters," "90210," "Ghost Whisperer" and "One Tree Hill."
Certified Platinum in Ireland, Sea Sew marks Hannigan's first release since parting with Damien Rice's band. A chance meeting with the singer-songwriter during her first weeks at Dublin's Trinity College led to a lengthy collaboration that included Rice's debut album, O, and its follow-up, 9. The launch of Hannigan's solo career was as serendipitous as her partnering with Rice. Before Sea Sew even had a label in the States, Jason Mraz, a longtime fan of hers, offered Hannigan the opening slot on his 2008 U.S. tour. Sea Saw was released in the U.S. by ATO Records in February of 2009. It quickly entered The Billboard 200 and reached #3 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
