Noah and the Whale Present The First Days of Spring This Fall

08/10/2009
.
(PR) Noah and the Whale's 'The First Days of Spring' an Album and Film will be released in October 2009 on Cherrytree/Interscope. Here is little about the project:

"I do see the film and the album as being together, as a unified thing," says Noah and the Whale's chief songwriter and singer Charlie Fink about the band's new record and accompanying film, The First Days of Spring. "But the album very much came first – it has its own internal narrative."

Noah and the Whale – Charlie Fink, Doug Fink, Tom Hobden and Urby Whale – craft their music with a unique and imaginative vision that sets them apart from the rest, and this October the band will release The First Days of Spring on Cherrytree/Interscope alongside a film of the same name which marks the directorial debut of Charlie Fink and runs the same length as the record. The release is the highly-anticipated follow-up to their gold- selling 2008 debut album Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down.

While elements of the band's first record can be heard in the music of The First Days of Spring, the new release is very much a departure and development of their debut album's ambitions and textures. The darker sonic depths hinted at on Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down are investigated on the new album with a thoroughness and fearlessness that will first surprise and then ensnare people whose knowledge of the band is based chiefly on their hit song, "Five Years Time."

Charlie Fink first began thinking of making an album that was also a film in 2008 – and as he sees it, vice versa. The film was shot on a miniscule budget in a tight time-frame and can be seen as a companion piece to the album, as a visual version of it, or as a piece of work in its own right but this decision is one which Noah and the Whale have decided to leave up to the listener and viewer.

The First Days of Spring was recorded in London and New York with producer Emery Dobyns (Patti Smith, Antony & The Johnsons) and the film was shot on location in London and Surrey with an ensemble cast that includes model Daisy Lowe. The first single from the record "Blue Skies" will be available as a special e-single in September on iTunes and fans will be able to pre-order the record starting September 8th.
